Here is a summary of The BLVD Transformation Project according to IDA:
"Against the backdrop of the nation's worst recession since the Great Depression, the City of Lancaster launched one of its most massive redevelopment projects to date: The BLVD Transformation. The City's formidable goal was to revitalize the downtown, which had served as the thriving commercial and social center of the region in decades past.
Re-branded as "The BLVD," Downtown Lancaster is now an integral asset to the region and has fast become known as the destination for events and social gatherings alike. The City's $11.6 million investment has already yielded an estimated $273 million in economic output, 50 new businesses, and more than 1,900 jobs."
This is the sixth award presented to the City of Lancaster for The Blvd since 2011.
"It's extremely flattering that Lancaster won this award because we're this little tiny place in California and we went up against the big boys and won," said Erica Allbee, vice president of The BLVD Association's board of directors.
