CA High Speed Rail and Palmdale Enter Planning Agreement

Two weeks ago the California High-Speed Rail Authority and the City of Palmdale announced that they have entered into a station-area funding agreement, which allows Palmdale and the California High Speed Rail Authority to initiate the planning process for the proposed station at the Palmdale Transportation Center.  The agreement allows both Palmdale and the California High Speed Rail Authority to study and analyze ways to promote economic development, sustainable community strategies, and enhance connections from multiple transportation methods to the Palmdale station.

As part of the agreement, the City of Palmdale will receive $600,000 in grants to explore options and seek public input for the design of the Palmdale Transportation Center.  Palmdale is currently the fastest growing city in Los Angeles County and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Palmdale residents have one of the longest commutes in the nation.

“We’re thrilled to work with the City of Palmdale to develop a high-speed rail station that will not only help the city thrive economically, but also cut down the commute time significantly for workers heading to Burbank and Los Angeles,” said Dan Richard, Authority Board Chairman. “Palmdale is a growing region and high-speed rail will help meet those demands with an efficient and cleaner mode of transportation.”
