First Solar, Inc (Nasdaq: FSLR) announced today that the Antelope Valley (AV) Solar Ranch One project, located in North LA County, achieved a 100 megawatt (MW) generating capacity. The solar project began in September 2011 and is expected to complete later this year. The photovoltaic (PV) power plant is being built on 2,100 acres and will have a generating capacity of 230 MW upon completion.
Power is being purchased from the plant by Pacific Gas and Electric Company under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). When fully operational the plant will power 75,000 California homes and will displace 140,000 tons of carbon dioxide; the equivalent of taking 30,000 cars off the road annually. First Solar is the largest PV solar system provider in the world.
